On a related note, one year the female winner of the Chicago Marathon had problems at the other end, and had to decide whether to keep going and finish first for $120,000 or stop and take care of it, and of course, she chose the cash.

OK, I have to ask. Is the question she was asking herself, "Would I pee on myself for $120K?" or something worse? Shocked

In a running magazine earlier this year, an article dealt with the question of mid-race potty breaks. They asked an ultrarunner his advice for breaks and his advice was basically to imagine that you are filling up a bag or some such nonsense. He was a no break kind of runner.

It was much, much worse. Fortunately, she was a dark skinned woman...

Good thing topic highjacking is not allowed or I might have to confess whether or not this has ever happened to me....twice....by myself anyway.

In over 100 career races, I have only had to take a break of either kind once and that was after Kim tricked me into having Hooters hot wings the night before Dallas White Rock. If a specific time goal were involved, i.e. missing a BQ by 43 seconds, there would be no question in my mind what would happen. My first marathon included 18 cups of Gatorade and no breaks.

Uh, MB, your memory must be worsening with your old age... Shocked You asked me why I wasn't eating hot wings. I told you I wouldn't dare eat those before a race, and that you would pay for it. And, uh,,,you did rolling eyes: And, uh, pee on myself for $120 K??..you better believe it! Heck, I'm from SW AR!!

I don't think Kim knows what the heck that "k" is all about. Wink He is saying he'd pee on himself for $120. Shocked We can all be bought. We all have our price. Etc.

Let's see:

disgorgement, honk, screaming at the ground, chumming, and of course good ol earl. belches with speedbumps, last nights leftovers revisited. ok, enough of that. God, do I have nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon......

Hey MB. It seems that I remember a post on here some time back about a red gatorade "celebration". Any plans for an Orange Crush celebration?

Heck, I'd pee on myself for $5.

Probably not as this race isn't far enough based on my previous track record (no pun intended, as this is cross country.)

However, oranges were, ironically enough, the culprit during most of my encounters, and I haven't had any since the 16 mile aide station at the Olathe Marathon in May.

But.....all this talk of putting out the effort required to make it happen is intriguing me greatly...might have to save that effort for the Arkansas Marathon in my attempt to get to the Dam Big Bridge 5-K in time.

Sebastian Bach, former lead singer of Skid Row, once said something to the effect of vomiting was better than you-know-what to him.

How'd you get it to be orange? Is that supposed to be me? Embarassed

Anyway, I have decided that for a comped race entry, or maybe even just on a double dare, I will stand on the awards stage after the race and throw back one frosty cold Orange Crush after another until nature takes it's course, and we have "The Exorcist meets Old Faithful - Orange Crush Style."

That reminds me of another: projectile vomiting.

I found myself HUGGING THE TRASH BARREL just past the finish line at Miami a couple years ago. 21 miles into the race I was way ahead of a PR pace; but then the sun came out & the heat, humidity, and ORANGE gatorade took their toll. The last five miles were miserable (kinda like today's 19 miler). I crossed the finish, got my medal, found the trash can & lost it. I instantly felt great afterward. Shoot, if I'd done that at mile 21, I might have gotten that PR.

Race directors should consider having a throw-up zone, immediately past the finish line (nice little shady area with trash barrels & nice people handing you wet-ones when your done), and seperated from the finish area food.

MB, modify the item in your list from simply "driving the bus" to "driving the PORCELIN bus" which was the original phrase from several decadeds ago and which really gives the correct visualization of the, uh, situation...

"Down Goes Fra-zier! Down Goes Fra-zier!"

But you can only say that if Larry Graham is the one puking.

That is hilarious and I don't even get it.

How about telling the story? I vaguely remember standing off to the side after a race one time and hearing Polansky vehemently repeating that line, probably before I knew he or Larry, so I am guessing he was involved?
